EXCESS FAT

Fat on the body refers to the adipose tissue that stores excess energy from food and serves several essential functions. While some body fat is necessary for overall health, excess fat can lead to various health risks. The distribution of fat on the body varies from person to person, and understanding its types, causes, and impact is important for managing overall health.

DID YOU KNOW

The average person has about 30-40 billion fat cells, and if all the fat in the body were to be converted into soap, it would produce enough for a good-sized bar of soap for each fat cell! It's a quirky way to think about how much energy and storage fat holds in the body.

What are the causes?

Overeating

When you consume more calories than your body needs for energy, the excess calories are stored as fat. This often happens when you eat high-calorie foods or large portion sizes, especially those high in fats, sugars, and refined carbohydrates.

Lack of Physical Activity

Physical inactivity is one of the primary reasons for fat accumulation. If you don’t burn enough calories through movement or exercise, your body stores the excess energy as fat. A sedentary lifestyle contributes significantly to weight gain and fat buildup.

Age

As you age, your metabolism naturally slows down, meaning you burn fewer calories. Additionally, you may lose muscle mass (sarcopenia), which further decreases your calorie-burning capacity. This leads to an increased tendency to gain fat, especially if physical activity doesn’t increase accordingly.

Genetics

Your genetic makeup plays a role in how and where your body stores fat. Some people may be genetically predisposed to store fat more easily, particularly around the abdominal area (visceral fat), while others may store it in the thighs or hips (subcutaneous fat).

Hormonal Changes

Hormones are powerful chemical messengers that regulate many processes in the body, including metabolism, appetite, and fat storage. When hormones are imbalanced or fluctuate due to various factors, they can promote the storage of fat, particularly in certain areas of the body like the abdomen.

Medication

certain medications, like antidepressants, antipsychotics and corticosteroids can lead to weight gain and fat accumulation by increasing appetite, altering metabolism, or promoting fluid retention. These effects often result in fat storage, particularly around the abdomen, and may require adjustments in diet and exercise.

HOW TO TREAT?

Exilis 360

Exilis uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to target fat cells and tighten skin by heating the skin and underlying tissue, which stimulates collagen production, reduces fat, and improves skin elasticity. It helps reduce localized fat by breaking down fat cells and also promotes skin tightening by encouraging the production of collagen and elastin, improving skin texture and firmness.

It's ideal for individuals looking to reduce mild to moderate fat and enhance skin tone, especially those with loose skin.

Emsculpt Neo

Emsculpt uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to induce powerful muscle contractions that the body cannot achieve through voluntary exercise. These contractions help build muscle while simultaneously breaking down fat in the treated area. It stimulates muscle growth in areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, arms, and thighs, while also reducing fat through intense muscle contractions. Each session typically lasts around 30 minutes, with noticeable results after a few treatments. Emsculpt is ideal for individuals looking to tone muscles and reduce fat, especially when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
