PORES

Pores are small openings on the surface of the skin that allow sweat and sebum (natural oil) to reach the skin's surface. They play a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin by regulating hydration and temperature. However, when clogged with oil, dead skin cells, or dirt, pores can appear enlarged and may contribute to acne, blackheads, or uneven skin texture. Proper skincare helps keep pores clear and minimizes their appearance for smoother, healthier-looking skin.

DID YOU KNOW

About 80% of the visible pores on your face are on the T-zone (the forehead, nose, and chin area).

This is because the T-zone has the highest concentration of sebaceous (oil) glands, which can lead to larger, more visible pores due to increased oil production. The rest of your face and body typically have smaller pores since there are fewer sebaceous glands in those areas!

What are the causes?

Genetics

Individuals with oily or thicker skin types often inherit a predisposition to larger pores. These genetic factors influence how much oil the sebaceous glands produce making some people naturally more prone to visible pores.

Hormonal changes

Hormonal fluctuations, such as puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause, can stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. This excess oil can clog pores and stretch them, making them appear larger. Hormonal imbalances such as PCOS, can also exacerbate pore enlargement and related skin concerns.

Sun Damage
Sun exposure accelerates skin aging by breaking down collagen and elastin. This damage weakens the skin’s support system, causing pores to stretch and become more visible over time. Additionally, UV rays can thicken the outer layer of the skin, trapping oil and debris, which further enlarges pores.

Aging and Loss of Collagen
As skin ages, it naturally loses collagen and elastin, which are responsible for its firmness and elasticity. This decline causes the skin to become less tight and more prone to sagging, leading to the appearance of larger pores. Aging also slows cell turnover, contributing to a rougher texture that emphasizes pore size.

Dehydration

When the skin is dehydrated it compensates by producing more oil to protect and hydrate itself. This excess oil can clog pores, stretching them and making them appear larger.

Cosmetic Products

Products that are not non-comedogenic can contribute to enlarged pores. These products can prevent oil and debris from escaping the pores, causing blockages. As the pores become clogged, they may expand to accommodate the buildup, making them more visible.

HOW TO TREAT?

Mirco-Needling

Microneedling TreatmentMicroneedling is a minimally invasive skincare treatment that uses tiny, fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin's surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing process, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin. Over time, this leads to improved skin texture, firmness, and elasticity.Microneedling is effective in reducing the appearance of large pores, refining skin texture, and addressing concerns like acne scars and fine lines. The treatment promotes smoother, more youthful-looking skin with little downtime, making it a popular choice for those seeking skin rejuvenation and enhanced skin tone.

M22 Lumenis

M22 is a versatile and advanced laser treatment that combines multiple laser technologies, including Fractional CO2 and Er:YAG lasers, to address a wide range of skin concerns. These lasers penetrate deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production, which tightens the skin and improves overall texture.

The treatment is highly effective in reducing the appearance of large pores, smoothing uneven skin, and promoting a more youthful complexion. M22 laser treatments can target specific skin issues such as sun damage, fine lines, and acne scars, leaving you with clearer, firmer, and more radiant skin with minimal downtime.

Peels

A chemical peel is a skincare treatment that involves applying a chemical solution to exfoliate and remove the outer layers of skin. This process helps address large pores by clearing out dead skin cells, oil, and impurities that can clog pores and make them appear larger. The acids used in peels exfoliate but also penetrate the skin to deeply cleanse pores, reducing blockages and preventing pore enlargement. Over time, chemical peels can even out skin tone by fading hyperpigmentation around pores, resulting in a more refined, even complexion. Overall, chemical peels effectively reduce the visibility of large pores, leaving the skin smoother, clearer, and more youthful.
